Ski-Lift “Start-up” Chair Moves to Denver’s Next Up-and-Coming Tech Outfit

History is repeating itself today, but I guess that's how traditions are created. ReadyTalk customer and local tech company, TrackVia, today announced the passing of Denver’s downtown tech torch—or in this case, a ski-lift chair—to LoHi Labs, another burgeoning tech company. The tradition started last year when  ReadyTalk moved to larger offices and needed to part with the ski lift chair that had been a fixture of our lobby.  Rather than retire the chair – which had grown to symbolize ReadyTalks... Making the Most of Your Mistakes - A tale of defeat, but mostly triumph

So, yesterday morning I had an "oh crap!" moment (that's the PG-13 version). You know, when you send out an email blast to 11,000 people and realize that you forgot to review the subject line that still said "NEEDS TITLE"? Yeah, one of those. Most marketers have experienced this kind of flub at some point. In fact, I had a few replies assuring me that they had 'been there, done that' and were hoping to give me a heads-up so I could potentially catch the rest that hadn't gone through yet. Y'all...Read More » » read more

Keeping Connected with Remote Employees

Face-to-face interaction is no longer required for a businesses to succeed in this day and age.  In fact, more and more businesses are moving away from the traditional office setting and outsourcing their work to remote workers in other cities, states and countries. Telecommuting is one of the most cost effective ways to grow a business; and despite many misnomers, telecommuting doesn’t disconnect a worker from the office.  Many businesses are using helpful communication methods to keep track of... Form Reposting with Eloqua and Closed Loop Reporting

At Eloqua Experience in Orlando I spoke  about how to do a server side post in Eloqua using javascirpt, cURL and some JSQuery.  A server side post is different than a direct post in that in a server side post, the server is doing some processing before it reposts back to Eloqua. This is often needed when the form in question collects credit card information or some other confidential information you dont want posted back. The problem we had was that our free trial and a buy now form are not... Read More » » read more

ReadyTalk gives back in a big way in 2012

Last week, ReadyTalk employees participated in the 3rd Annual Colorado Gives Day.  Each year, ReadyTalk matches up to $500 per employee in charitable giving. To up the ante, our Charitable Contributions Committee also matches each employee donation made on Colorado Gives Day.  So a $50 donation to my favorite non-profit  becomes $150 with the ReadyTalk matches. Our goal this year was $3500 in employee donations. I'm thrilled to report that we blew past that with over $4000 donated! That means... Read More » » read more

ReadyTalk's Feature Frag (Part I)

So what exactly is a Feature Frag? It's an event focused on feature development; it's quick, it's competitive and we want the best ideas and prototypes to be left standing when the dust settles.  Let me shed some light on this newly minted term for you, dear reader. Here in the halls of ReadyTalk Engineering, there are a few things that are part of who we are. Video gaming happens to be one of them. Many of our engineers grew up playing 8-bit video games or spent more quarters at the local arcade... Read More » » read more

Climbing with ReadyTalk

When Outside Magazine votes you the best place to work in the country and your CEO is the World's Fittest CEO, you likely work with a group of people that don't spend a lot of time on the couch. Kelly shares an example of a group of ReadyTalk employees recently spent a Saturday. I owe a huge thank you to my fellow ReadyTalk marketing team members Mike McKinnon and Simone Nabers for making ReadyTalk’s 3rd Annual Climbing Day a huge success. ReadyTalk families and rock climbers of all ages and... Read More » » read more

What I Learned as a Dreamforce Newbie

Last year was my first year attending Salesforce's annual Dreamforce conference. I've been to a lot of BIG conferences and tradeshows - E3 (in it's glory days), ComicCon, CES, and others. Taking over entire city blocks, every hotel in the city and multiple parties every night, nothing is quite like Dreamforce. There were a few mistakes I made as a Dreamforce newbie that will be sure not to do this year: Lunch. Last year, I left the convention center to track down food. The first day I didn't... ReadyTalk Hiring "Girls Gone Geek"

It occurred to me that the majority of applicants and candidates that I talk to on a day to day basis in the field of software development are primarily men.  Even within the walls of ReadyTalk we lack a certain female presence on the software development side.  I have done some research to find out the history of females in computer science. I am hoping I will be able to understand what the future may hold and how ReadyTalk can help support women in technology. According to Wikipedia, the number... Read More » » read more

How ReadyTalk Eats its Own Dog Food

Everyone has heard the expression that companies should “eat their own dog food.” Well, I have two dogs and the idea of eating their kibble isn’t exactly appetizing. I prefer the alternative take of “drinking your own champagne” – same concept, but much tastier. While the “dogfooding” concept initially emerged as a way for organizations to demonstrate confidence in their own offerings to prospective customers, it has evolved into something much more valuable. Regardless of which version of that... Read More » » read more

Take your passion and make it happen

A lot of candidates ask me "what does it take to get hired as an engineer at ReadyTalk".  I simply respond, "passion".  Lets first think about what passion really means.  Wikipedia states "Passion is an intense emotion compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something."   ReadyTalk Engineering has built itself on passionate developers who love to "geek out" any chance they get.  Creating a geek culture is something we take pride in and make sure to maintain as we grow. As a candidate goes... Read More » » read more

Heading to Dreamforce? Be our guest

Dreamforce is one of the largest technology tradeshows of the year. It brings 50,000 people to San Francisco for a week of sessions, exhibits, parties and keynotes all dedicated to the topic of Salesforce. The event is crowded with geeks from every position – salesforce.com administrators, marketing folks (like me), salespeople (of course), developers and more. ReadyTalk gets a lot of value out of exhibiting at Dreamforce. It’s a great opportunity to demo ReadyTalk for Salesforce, our free... Read More » » read more

Cardiac Kids and ReadyTalk

Today's guest post is provided by Jessica Liss, ReadyTalk Technical Product Manager This year ReadyTalk entered a team of five runners to compete in the Corporate Cup division of the Colfax Marathon. The Corporate Cup marathon relay aligned well with ReadyTalk’s values of health and wellness as well as giving back to the community as the top three finishers were rewarded with cash to donate to their choice of the race’s charity partners.    The ReadyTalk runners (me, Brian Schlosser, Jason Stueve,...
