On the morning of August 22nd, Denver’s Platte River Trial and Gates-Crescent Park was the scene of greatness.
The spirit of volunteerism, generosity and community was displayed in many forms at the 2009 ReadyTalk Race for Charities with runners, sponsors, volunteers and “pooches” all coming together for a great cause.
The inaugural 5K Run/Walk and “Walk with Paws” event drew nearly 200 participants, garnered support from numerous volunteers and local businesses, and helped to promote the need for volunteerism within our own community. ReadyTalk would like to publically recognize the many supporters and sponsors who offered their time and services. We couldn’t have done it without you!
A BIG thank you goes out to Imprints Lodo, FUZE, Wynkoop Brewing Company, Hi-Rise Bakery, Elements Therapeutic Massage, Forza, Firehouse Animal Hospitals, DogMatches.com, VanGilder, Illegal Pete’s, Active.com, AlphaGraphics, and the Hilton Garden Inn for their generosity and support.
Every division was a tight race to the finish, but ReadyTalk’s own Scott King took home the honor of 1st Place in the Mens Division. Other winners included:
- Scott King, 1st Place Mens Division
- Kelly Escorcia, 1st Place Womens Division
- Joel Dice, 2nd Place Mens Division
- Eva Kort, 2nd Place Womens Division
- Rick Bruess, 3rd Place Mens Division
- Laura Bruess, 3rd Place Womens Division
- Zachary Alhamra, 1st Place Boys Division
- Maddie King, 1st Place Girls Division
- While we had several costumed entrants, the award for Best Dressed Dog went to two “tutu” canine ballerinas.
The race raised thousands of dollars for two local organizations - Young Philanthropist Foundation (YPF) and Work Options for Women (WOW). At the conclusion of the event, members from both groups were presented with checks for $4,000 on behalf of ReadyTalk.
With this year’s race garnering overwhelming community support, the Race for Charities Committee is already looking ahead to planning a more expansive event next year. Stay tuned to www.ReadyTak.com/Race for more information. We hope to see you there!

While there are many local programs deserving of recognition and assistance, this year, all proceeds from ReadyTalk’s inaugural RFC will benefit the following two Denver-based charities:
The Young Philanthropist Foundation (YFP)
YPF is dedicated to engaging youth in philanthropy by creating opportunities for kids and families to give back to their community. We believe that philanthropy is anything you do to make the world a better place, and base our programming on a simple philosophy: if you give kids the opportunity to make a difference now, they will continue to make a difference the rest of their lives.
Work Options for Women (WOW)
For more than 10 years, Work Options for Women (WOW) has had a vital mission: to help give homeless and impoverished women the training and skills necessary to be successful in the work force. For 16 weeks, women are taught foodservice skills in a commercial kitchen that prepares over 300 meals a day. Upon graduation 100 percent are placed in food service jobs. Twelve months after placement, 86 percent are still employed – far above the national success rate of similar programs
