ReadyTalk in the Community: Mountain Range High School MESA / FTC Robotics Team

Mountain Range High School MESA / FTC Robotics Team

In 2013, ReadyTalk’s Charitable Contributions Committee started a great relationships with the Mountain Range High School MESA / FTC Robotics Team. ReadyTalk employee Samantha Mizzi found out about the team from a former coworker who was lamenting how hard it was to get his company to donate to the team. First thought – ReadyTalk to the rescue!

After some quick introductions, Scott Schankweiler (teacher/mentor for the team) and a handful of MRHS students visited the ReadyTalk office to present to our Charitable Contributions Committee. ReadyTalk’s Charitable Contributions Committee (CCC) is an employee-driven committee that allocates $80,000 each year to support numerous local non-profits. The CCC members were impressed with the polished, well-rehearsed presentation about what the team has accomplished so far, and some of the things they could achieve with a little financial help. The after school program was running with no outside funding. The committee decided to donate $2,000 to assist in sending the team to compete for the National Championship in Oregon. They ended up winning first prize with their prosthetic arm! We were proud to see they competed in the ReadyTalk Geek shirts we had provided.

Mountain Range High School MESA / FTC Robotics TeamJust last month, the MRHS team was back in the ReadyTalk office with more news on their achievements. In one year, their participation doubled, and with the donation were able to afford kits for 2 teams of students. The CCC decided to support them again for the competition this year to help purchase a 3-D printer which will be used to build robotic parts. We look forward to continuing this positive relationship and celebrating these young people’s achievements now and in the future!
