Productive Conference Calls

Last night, my wife had just gotten off of a conference call and she complained that the call was unorganized, too long and the objectives were not accomplished. This morning I came across this post about productive conference calls.. The post lists 17 ways for more productive conference calls. While they are all worth reading, I wanted to bring attention to a couple of main themes.

1. Time Management: This is critical to all meetings including conference calls. Make sure you have an agenda prepared, the call starts on time, you stay focused and you stick to the topic at hand. All of these things will keep your participants present and focused.

2. Resource Management: Resources management refers to your human resources as well as any technological resources. In terms of human resources, make sure your scheduled guests (if any) are on time. Only invite a subject matter expert or boss if their presence is absolutely needed. At the same time, you must make sure everyone is familiar with the log-in process, that speakers are familiar with the audio and web functions and that any audio equipment (speakerphone) you might need is available.

Both resource and time management are critical if you are going to keep your participants engaged and focused. What are some of the ways in which you keep your conference calls efficient and meaningful?
